Live With Wreckless Abandon

1 min read

Hey Andy, it’s Anson; when you get a little older, you will change your name to your birth certificate name; it’s nice to connect; I want to share a few things I want you to know.  As for writing these words, I’m sitting in a mountain top chalet I own with my second wife.  The first marriage was great but didn’t pan out; I’m on number two and have never been more in love.

In the coming days, you are going to be tempted to smoke marijuana for the first time.  I know you are conflicted; you have heard that it is a gateway drug, it’s a drug, and you don’t do drugs, and only bad people do drugs. However, I would like you to know that marijuana is viewed as medicine in the future, and there are medicinal properties to the plant.

Do not feel bad about that first toke or any toke you take after; I can attest that marijuana is as safe as milk and water; it will help you navigate the rough waters of adolescence and young adulthood.  I am speaking to you and you only; this is not advisable for any other human; you and I have always had the guinea pig mentality; we will try things and then use logic and reason to process the effects.

Live your life with reckless abandon, experiment with life; you only have one.  Always remember what our Uncle Hunter said: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”

Trust me when I tell you that living on the edge will be a gift; your experiences will help you navigate life but be smart with your choices.  Nothing good happens after eleven o’clock, make sure you are home and with your family and friends.  I just thought with the consternation you are feeling, it might help to hear from your future self, and I want you to know you have no idea how amazing your life will be.  Trust me; I’m you.
